Myron Gilbert & Joe Pikulski use Little Atom lures to win $10,000 first place at 2006 Redstone Ice Team qualifier tournament, February 12, 2006 above photo: Myron Gilbert (L) and Joe Pikulski (R) show a few crappies from their 1st place $10,000 winning catch 2/12/06 Team Little Atom anglers Myron Gilbert & Joe Pikulski from Brooklyn, Michigan arrived at Lake Redstone in LaValle, Wisconsin on the Wednesday morning before the Sunday tournament to scout the lake for several days prior the tournament. They fished lake Redstone from dawn 'til dusk Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and by Saturday they were so exhausted they only fished a half-day on Saturday. During the pre-fishing days before the Sunday tournament, Joe & Myron honed-in their presentation skills and their strategy. They caught Crappies from several different areas of Lake Redstone, used several different lures and presentations, and by Saturday they had found their best results came by using Little Atom Optic Jigs and Fiskas Wolfram Jigs tipped with Little Atom super-soft plastic tails. above photo: Thursday morning (2/9/06), Captain Joe Pikulski out early on beautiful scenic Lake Redstone, scouting to find where the winning catch of crappies are hiding under the ice. By Saturday afternoon, all their rods were rigged and ready to go, and on Sunday morning when the 8am tournament began, the crappies below Joe & Myron began to see Little Atom Optic Jigs and Fiskas Wolfram Jigs tipped with Little Atom super-soft plastic tails thrown at them. Joe & Myron commented that they were surprised how far the crappies would travel up from the lake bottom to chase after the Little Atom super-soft plastic tails. Myron added that oftentimes he could get crappies to come up from the bottom ten feet or more, teasing them into chasing after the super-soft Little Atom plastic tails unique scent and undulating action. Joe & Myron finished up their catch and made it back to the weigh-in line with a few minutes to spare, and they were confident they did well, but it's not over until all the fish are weighed, so they waited with anticipation hoping their days catch was good enough for a finish at or near the top. Joe & Myron were elated after all the fish were weighed, and their catch of 15 crappies weighing 7.72 pounds was good enough for Joe & Myron's first win on the Ice Team tournament circuit. Joe & Myron received the 1st place payout of $10,000 and while there can certainly always be an element of luck in play at any fishing tournament, for the 2006 Redstone Ice Team tournament, Joe & Myron relied solely upon their angling skills and Little Atom Jigs/Plastic tails and Fiskas Wolfram Jigs instead of relying upon luck, and it paid big dividends. above photo: (2/12/06) Joe & Myron at the weigh-in scale being interviewed about their catch. When Joe & Myron's catch weight of 7.72 pounds was announced, you could hear the crowd of anglers and spectators gasp. By winning the Redstone Ice Team qualifier tournament, Joe & Myron also automatically qualified themselves for a spot in the 2006 Ice Team North American Ice Fishing Championship (NAIFC) which is scheduled for December 2006. The top-15 spots in an Ice Team qualifier tournament automatically qualify for a spot in the NAIFC, and several other Team Little Atom anglers qualified the 2006 NAIFC by securing a top-15 finish at the 2006 Redstone Ice Team qualifying tournament, namely Team Little Atom anglers Phil Morse & Jeff Morse with a 15th place finish, and Team Little Atom anglers Doug Bussian & Mike Dahl with a 6th place finish, both automatically now qualify for the 2006 NAIFC. Several other anglers in the top-15 finishing spots at Redstone also spoke how they used Little Atom lures to bring in their top-15 catches, namely Travis Williams & Marcus Achtung who said that they used Little Atom Optic Stealth Jigs tipped with Little Atom Nuggies tails and Wedgees tails to bring in their 11th place catch; and Carl Doty & David Lemke said they used Little Atom lures to bring in their 13th place catch. When they are not ice-fishing, Joe Pikulski and Myron Gilbert each have their own charter boat and work during the open-water season as charter-boat captains, putting their clients on Lake Erie Walleye/Perch and Lake Michigan Salmon/Trout. They are both very sought after by clients, because they have a good success rate of putting their clients on the fish and when the rare time comes when the fish are hiding or not biting so well, they can still create a fun atmosphere for their clients. If you are interested in booking a charter fishing expedition for Lake Michigan Salmon/Trout and/or Lake Erie walleyes, you can reach Captain Myron Gilbert of M&M Charters at (517) 592-3376 or Captain Joe Pikulski of Temptation Sport Fishing (www.temptationsportfishing.com) at (517) 467-4717. They each have over 20 years experience, they both have reasonable rates, and they both are highly sought-after charter boat captains. They both tend to be booked with clients for several months in advance. If you plan enough time ahead you may be able to book a charter fishing trip with either Captain Myron or Captain Joe during the open-water season. Congratulations to Captain Joe & Captain Myron for representing Team Little Atom with another 1st place $10,000 win. Just In the last two years, Team Little Atom anglers have now won $50,000 in just 1st place finishes alone!
