Seventy two-man teams of the most serious ice-anglers in North America swarmed unto Silver Lake in New York state, days before the February 4th tournament, and braved the brutal weather conditions. Each team searched for spots, lures, and techniques to put Perch and Bluegills on the scales come tournament day. When the last scale weight was registered Sunday afternoon, the two-man team of Mark Rusinek of Depew, NY and Jeff Falkowski of Ohio came out on top of the charts with a winning weight of 7.39 pounds of Perch and Bluegills. They won a $4,667 First Place check, and two wooden plaques that will forever hang on their walls as the 2007 New York Ice Team ‘Super Trap Attack’ Champions! Mark & Jeff used Fiskas brand jigging lures rigged with Little Atom brand plastic tails to bring in the winning weight on tournament day. Jeff said that he and Mark had experimented with many plastic tails in the days before the tournament, and the fish would only hit aggressively on the Little Atom plastic tails. So, on tournament day, it was a no-brainer as to what plastic tails to use --- Little Atom. On tournament day, Jeff said the Perch hammered the Little Atom plastic tails in the glow-in-the-dark color and the Bluegills went crazy for the motor oil color. Congratulations Jeff & Mark!
Several other teams in the top of the field also used Little Atom lures to bring a top-10 finish. The team of Tony Boshold & Mike McNett, who are the 2005 North American Ice Fishing Champions, used Little Atom lures to bring in a 7th place finish. The team of Phil & Jeff Morse, who are the 2004 North American Ice Fishing Champions, used Little Atom lures to bring in their 8th place finish. The newer team of John Bacarella & Bob Horn used Little Atom lures to bring in their 10th place finish. Bob Horn stated that he and John caught all of their Perch on the Little Atom Knacker Spoon tipped with spikes, and Bob said the Bluegills were hammering the Little Atom Spidgies tail in motor oil color. Bob stated that he caught a couple of 8”+ Bluegills on the LA Spidgies in the last 5 minutes of fishing before heading to the weigh-in line. Joe Pikulski and Myron Gilbert, who won $10,000 first place at the February 2006 Redstone Ice Team tournament, used Little Atom lures to bring in their mix of 15 Bluegills/Perch, but the bigger fish didn’t show-up at their spots on tournament day and they finished in 21st place out of the 70 teams.
